Shelby is a sweet and beautiful soul that has been through some scary life events that have left strong impressions on how she interacts with the world. She was picked up as a stray, having been hit by a car which broke her leg (all healed now). This may explain why leaving the security of home is so scary. We have learned that Shelby Rose is fearful of new people, things and sounds. However, she shines and warms up quickly to new humans in the company of another canine! We are working on her confidence but she continues to prove to us that going solo is not her thing. Shelby is withdrawn and fearful without a canine by her side, no matter how much she trusts the humans in her foster family. If there ever was a dog that acted like a turtle, it would be Shelby! She has a medium energy level and can happily amuse herself with toys when the other canine is not interested in play. She also loves a good snuggle up time with the human for naps, petting and belly rubs. Shelby has good house manners, knows basic commands, loves treats, is respectful of her foster canine and passed with flying colors when cat tested. She is kennel and house trained though needs frequent opportunities to go outside in a new environment. We are requiring that she is adopted into a family with another canine (or two) and a fenced yard. We fear that without an enclosure she could be a flight risk by sudden outside sounds. Shelby is a joy and delight when she feels safe!
